The Studio

Where exactly are you located?

We currently have three locations!✨✨✨

The Studio Tacoma is located at 1736 Pacific Ave, near the UW Tacoma campus and directly across the street from Tacoma Union Station.

The Studio Gig Harbor is located at 5125 Olympic Drive, Ste 110, behind Heritage Bank.

and The Studio University Place is located at 3633 Marketplace W in the Village at Chambers Bay. We are between Serenity Spa and Urban Float.

We do our best to start classes promptly at the start time, so please be advised the door will be locked once we begin, and arriving more than 5 minutes late will result in a late cancellation.

HOW DO I KNOW WHICH STUDIO I’M BOOKING?

In the MindBody App, each Studio location has it’s own profile, so check the address and be sure to save one or both to your favorites!

Another option is to visit our calendar at Book Now, and filter by location using the filter icon at the top.

Once a session has been reserved, your text and/or email confirmation will also mention The Studio location you’ve booked.

Where should I park?

For The Studio Tacoma, there is paid parking directly out front of The Studio (free on Sundays, holidays, + before 8am!) Pay at the meter, or download the Flowbird app for an easy no-touch option. It is $1.00 for 60 minutes (which will be enough time as classes are 50 minutes long). Some paid spaces downtown are pay til 6pm and some are pay til 8pm, so please be sure to keep an eye on which type you’re in to avoid a ticket.

Free parking can also be found on Market Street (on the other side of UWT) and in the areas surrounding campus. Just be sure to give yourself a few extra minutes, as it’s then an easy walk to our space. Perfect opportunity for a pre-class warmup, and time to center yourself before your session.

The Studio Gig Harbor and The Studio University Place have free parking lots for your use. :)

Do I need to do a Private session first?

A Private session is not required for new clients, but is recommended for those who have physical ailments (such as chronic pain or a recent injury), have been inactive for an extended period of time, or those who are pregnant/have given birth within the last six months.

A Private session allows us to assess your body’s needs, while moving at your pace and helping you to get comfortable on the Xformer. If you aren’t in one of the categories mentioned, we suggest starting with The Form class. The Form offers an introduction to the method/equipment for a variety of fitness levels.

What is the cancellation policy?

For classes, we have a 12-hour Cancellation Policy at The Studio. No Exceptions.

For Private training (incl. Privates, Duets, + Semi-Privates), 24-hour notice is required to avoid a late cancellation.

We fully understand things happen, but due to the limited number of spaces in each class, cancellation with less than 12-hours’ notice is deemed a Late Cancellation and will result in deducting one session from your package or membership. No-showing a reservation will result in an additional $20 no show fee.

I MISSED CLASS THOUGH. CAN I PLEASE HAVE MY CLASS BACK THIS ONE TIME?

We feel we should elaborate bc we get this question all. the. time. Our Late Cancel policy isn’t meant to be a motivator. Punishment as motivation is so over, thank goodness!

Rather, our policy is pure economics and part of how we keep The Studio open for your continued Pilates practice. We have a limited + capped number of spaces in class, which means when you’ve reserved one, it is no longer out there in the ether for anyone else to claim. So if things come up that are out of your control (aka probably going to happen, that’s life for all of us!) and you can no longer make it, we must hold to our policy like the badass boundary holding role models we are. Of course, you’re welcome to ask, but everyone is viewed the same at The Studio, so you can guess what our answer will be.

CAN I GET AN EXTENSION ON MY EXPIRATION DATE?

While we’re on the topic of economics and questions we get asked frequently, this feels like a good one to cover! No, we cannot extend expiration dates. This is because our timelines are carefully decided upon as a factor in our pricing, so they will remain as they are stated at time of purchase.

How often should I practice at The Studio?

We believe in the importance of allowing your body to rest in between intense strength training sessions in order to fully reap the benefits of your effort and prevent injury. With that, we recommend no more than 3-5 Sculpt classes per week.

If you want to hang out at The Studio more often (and we hope you do!) we purposely created The Form, The Flow and The Stretch classes for the days where your body needs something slower, gentler, and more restorative.

What kind of music do you play?

We take our playlists very seriously at The Studio and spend lots of time individually selecting the right tunes to reflect the vibe of the class you are in. We are fans of Britney and a little bit of country, but you hear enough of that on the radio. At The Studio, we hope to introduce you to some new artists to add to your playlist. House, Hip-Hop and Electronic Indie Pop are in our usual rotation.

It is never our intention to offend any of our clients, and we are mindful of lyric content—however, we don’t believe in censoring ourselves or others, so there is a possibility you’ll hear a swear word or two. If that is distracting or makes you particularly uncomfortable, let us know at least 24 hours prior to class and we’ll do our best to offer something a little more PG-rated.

Why do I need to wear special socks?

Grip socks are required for all classes because a) they ensure safety during exercises and b) they help us maintain the utmost level of cleanliness. Socks do not have to be purchased at The Studio, but we do have a variety of colors and sizes for sale in case you forget yours.

How does the waitlist work?

If a class is full, MindBody will give you the option to join the waitlist. If you are moved off the waitlist into the class, you’ll receive an email notification no less than 1 hour prior to the scheduled class time. Please remember to “opt-in” for email notifications in your profile if you choose to use the waitlist, and check your junk mail box. You can also verify your place in class by visiting the MindBody App > Schedule > and looking for “Waitlist” in the bottom corner of your reservation. If it does not say “Waitlist,” you’ve been added!

Important to note: MindBody does not offer a way to prevent members from waitlisting a class if they’ve run out of sessions, so be mindful that waitlisting can result in exceeding your monthly allotment and incurring an additional class charge.

Also important: Joining the waitlist is you saying you’ll be in class if a spot opens up! Please only waitlist if you’re able to make it to The Studio with an hour’s notice. If a space opens for you and you can no longer attend within our 12-hour cancellation window, the missed class will result in a late cancellation.

What is this charge on my bank account?

If you have a question about a charge, please reach out to us, before reaching out to your bank. We’re happy to help you figure it out if something looks off. An email to hello@thestudiomodernpilates.com will be answered in 48 business hours.

WHY is MY MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP NOT WORKING?

The first class you book is the activation date for your membership. If you decide you’d like to come sooner, you’ll need to cancel and rebook your classes consecutively — if you are worried about losing your spot, email us and we can rebook for you!

HOW DO I GIVE A FRIEND ONE OF MY CLASS CREDITS?

We're thrilled you're enjoying your classes so much that you'd like to share the experience with a friend! However, our policies maintain that class credits are non-transferable. We want to ensure that each of our members enjoys their package fully and personally.

In the spirit of sharing, though, we do offer physical + digital gift cards options. For something less formal, we can use your card on file, with your approval, to purchase your friend’s session. To get them set up, send us an email at thestudiomodernpilates@gmail.com! 💝
